
Preparation for the National Teaching Diploma in Classical and Contemporary Dance
(Diplôme d’Etat de Professeur de Danse Classique et Contemporaine)
In September 2012, the Interim Association of the Nord-Pas de Calais Higher Arts Education Centre (Association de Préfiguration du Pôle Supérieur d’Enseignement Artistique en Nord-Pas de Calais) launched an innovative course combining artistic practice and choreographic education in partnership with Charles de Gaulle University – Lille 3, the National Choreographic Centre Roubaix – Nord-Pas de Calais, and Danse à Lille/CDC (Choreographic Development Centre).
Set in a region boasting an outstanding and dynamic choreography scene, this top-level course teaches the following fundamental elements: intellectual rigour, creativity, technical skills and teaching skills.
This joint teaching and university course is unique in France: students on it simultaneously prepare for the National Teaching Diploma in Classical and Contemporary Dance (Diplôme d’Etat de Professeur de Danse) and an arts degree in dance (Licence Arts parcours Danse), delivered through the Intervention et Etudes en Danse programme.
Course organisation
This joint teaching and university course runs for five terms (a total of 1,600 hours) and is designed to lead to the award of two qualifications: the National Teaching Diploma in Classical and Contemporary Dance (Diplôme d’Etat de Professeur de Danse) and an arts degree in dance (Licence Arts parcours Danse).
Options and credits
The course offers two options: classical dance and contemporary dance.
Teaching diploma theory credits: music, history of dance, anatomy/physiology, teaching.
Degree theory credits: multidisciplinary workshop, choreographic style, dialogue between the arts, choreographic analysis, creation workshop, writings on dance, aesthetics and language.
Technique classes: 480 hours spread over the course taught by teachers from the National Choreographic Centre (CCN), and by guest performers and choreographers of the CCN and of Danse à Lille/CDC as part of the Entraînement Régulier du Danseur/ERD scheme (continuing professional development for professional dancers).
FeesApplication fee: 50 euros (non-refundable in the event of withdrawal)
Annual course fees: 410 euros (national teaching diploma/dance degree)
