Carolyn Carlson has always been fascinated by horses’ instinct for extreme liberty and their elegance, and has watched Bartabas’s shows for years. Now these powerful creatives are coming together for the work We are what we leave behind us. Bartabas’s academy, a corps de ballet unlike any other in the world, provides him with the necessary tool to create a piece alongside the choreographer. Béthune, Regional Capital of Culture, is turning their wish to combine their imaginations and poetry of movement into reality. These early images are resulting from their exchange: wild men in the sand at the horses’ feet, the animals’ hypnotising power and women with extremely slow gestures.
